Make up in game design

app designersYou never know where your skills in makeup application will take you. The other day I was approached by a gaming company who asked me to have some input unto the appearance of the characters I totally get where they were coming from. Although the designers have a terrific sense of form and aesthetics, they know little about the enhancements of cosmetics. Now that video game characters look hyper real ( — they look almost like real people it’s really hard to tell the difference sometimes!!) they actually need a makeup artist. And that’s where I come in.

While doing this project for the video game company, I started thinking about whether make up skills are taught in app design courses in Melbourne. If not, then they should be. Or perhaps, the designers should spend some time doing extra curricular makeup courses outside of their IT colleges. That’s when I had the brilliant idea to conduct my own makeup lessons specifically for IT students.

I can now market my business in so many different ways. I can do cosmetics for weddings, hens nights, assist video game designers in their work and also teach tutorials for would-be designers who need to learn about the face. My courses will start next year. Of course, I may try to pitch the idea to the colleges that do the game design courses around Melbourne. They may like to hire me to teach some of their lectures. My boyfriend thinks it’s a really dumb idea. He thinks I’m “ditsy” but what does he know? I’ll show him when I’m raking in the dosh supplying makeup tips to the gaming industry. A lot of people thought that Marilyn Monroe was ditsy but look at her — she got famous. And also killed herself. Only smart people like depressos and poets do that. So see, she couldn’t have been ditsy… And neither am I!
