My beautician is a genius. She may be a beautician by trade, but she’s an unofficial counsellor, career coach and party planner. We talk while she’s doing my hair and she gives me advice about my life. Last time I visited I was puzzling over what to do for my son’s birthday. I never expected her to know so much about birthday party venues.
Makes sense now that I reflect on it. She’d know a lot about parties and events being a make up artists going to all the different venues and stuff. She said she did hair and makeup for a figure skating performance and that’s who she discovered this ice skating rink near docklands. She said they do kids parties there, which would be perfect for my son.
I said that my son and probably most of his friends have never done ice skating. She said it’s similar to other types of skating and rollerblading and it’s not hard to pick up, especially because they give you an introductory lesson at the start of the day. She said the food there is really nice too. They cater for kids and for adults and those annoying people with dietary requirements.
I’ll definitely go to my beautician next time I’m stuck on birthday party ideas. There are so many venues for hire in Melbourne, and she knows about many obscure ones that I’d never have thought of, like the ice skating arena.
She’s also counselling me through a difficult divorce (and not charging me any extra). She gave me some sound advice to throw my husband’s possessions, including his two thousand dollar sound system, out the second story window. Seeing that glinting metal crash down the side of the house and shatter on the damp green lawn was one of the most satisfying sights of my life Much more satisfying than the sight of his ugly mug waiting for me as I approached him down the aisle.
