What will they think of next? We already had the Duplo Movie, and the one about the guy in the arcade who broke things. And then they just had to go a step further and make a feature-length animated feature on Irritated Avians.
Honestly, it’s pretty obvious that it’s all down to product placement. Which can be done well, mind you…just not all the time. I’m pretty into the educational games at the moment, because at least when you’ve got a long train journey (or a short one, whatever), you can at least spend the time learning something. Sometimes, stuff that’ll get you a job in the future. The people behind those job simulators that are flooding the market have released a series of apps around that central theme, but they’ve managed to make them fun. Like, they interviewed people who did the jobs and everything. There’s one called ‘Bug Hunt’ where you take on the role of a termite inspector. Dandenong has a few of those around the place, so I thought I’d give it a go to see what they get up to.
The games are pretty simple…or maybe just realistic, I guess. You go through the normal, average day of a pest control expert, and you get on-screen prompts for when you need to do something to do with the job. These prompts disappear as you go through the levels, until you’re a fully-fledged pest control expert and you don’t need any prompts. And THEN, if you want, you can go and apply for a job. That was one of their originally stated aims, anyway. They wanted to make it so the games are actual job training as well.
And look, I don’t know if playing an app on your phone is ever actually going to get you a job as a person who does pest control in Sorrento, but it’s a nice enough idea. At least until we get a terrible animated movie called ‘BUG HUNT’ that ruins it for everyone.
