From lessons to lectures

lorne function roomsAlright, I’m about to take a bit of a leap of faith, so please, bare with me here. If I do this, it’s going to be a first, or at least, the first time I’ve ever heard of anybody doing it. You see, I run a very small, modest little beauty school for students who are truly dedicated to learn about makeup and the art-form that it can be. I don’t profess to be a master at makeup, not by any standards, but over the years I’ve had many students ask if I would be comfortable taking seminars or holding talks on makeup. Not so much makeup workshops, per se, but more how makeup has become involved in issues such as ethics and self-worth.

This year, I think it’s finally time to make the jump from idea to reality, and bring those seminars to life. But I’d like them to be quite a different experience to typical, run of the mill conferences, and therein lies the problem. How do I differentiate my seminars from countless others? The first thing that springs to mind is location. As real estate agents have been known to say; it’s all about location, location, location, and so I think the way I could make my talks different is by hosting them somewhere extraordinary. But where would I find somewhere extraordinary, outside of Melbourne of course, that would be comfortable allowing me to use a function room that’s for hire? Well, all my research has pointed to one, perfect destination. Lorne.

It’s a little bit further out of my way than I’d originally thought I’d have to go, but for only a two hour drive, it’s perfect. Near the beach and the bush, the quaint little town has much more to offer, with the sense of country bustle I was really hoping for. I talked to the staff about the function rooms, and they mentioned that, if I was holding a conference there, I would also need to look for accommodation in Lorne. Victoria, I thought to myself, it’s all so much! Calm down, take it one step at a time. Everything will fall into place. It always does.
